We are thrilled to announce a historic victory in the case numbered 6:22-cv-00381, underscoring our relentless commitment to fostering a prosperous business landscape in our community.
In this landmark case, on September 8, 2023, Judge J. Campbell Barker ruled in favor of the Longview Chamber of Commerce and co-plaintiffs, the American Bankers Association, Consumer Bankers Association, Independent Bankers Association of Texas, U.S. Chamber of Commerce, Texas Association of Business, and Texas Bankers Association against the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau and its director, Rohit Chopra.
The court’s ruling affirms the attempted overreach of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau’s March 2022 update was unlawful and unconstitutional. This judgment guarantees protection against unwarranted scrutiny for our member organizations, empowering them to thrive and innovate without undue constraints. Furthermore, the court has enacted a protective measure that prevents any undue examination, supervision, or enforcement action against any member of our plaintiff organization, thus establishing a precedent that recognizes the importance of safeguarding business interests in the light of statutory authority and constitutional mandates.
This victory is yours as much as it is ours. Together, we stand at the cusp of an era that celebrates entrepreneurial spirit, free enterprise, and unfettered growth. The Longview Chamber of Commerce, your steadfast convener and champion, applauds the business community’s resilience and vision that have brought us to this momentous milestone.
